Pyrolysis of disodium perfluoroglutarate and of perfluoroglutaric anhydride over potassium fluoride

Abstract

Pyrolysis of disodium perfluoroglutarate gives a complex product containing cis- and trans-perfluorobut-2-enoyl fluoride and perfluorobut-3-enoyl fluoride. Passage of perfluoroglutaric anhydride over potassium fluoride at 420–450° also yields a mixture of these alkenoyl fluorides, which can be converted into mixed sodium perfluorobutenoates that, when pyrolysed, give, inter alia, perfluoro(methylacetylene).
