Complexes of terpenes with transition metals. Part II. Reactions of linalyl and nerolidyl acetates, limonene, and the pinenes with disodium tetrachloropalladate(II)

Abstract

Linalyl acetate reacts with disodium tetrachloropalladate(II) at 60° to give a 6,7,8-trihapto-derivative of geranyl acetate, or at lower temperatures a 2,3,4-trihapto-derivative with addition of an alkoxy-residue from the solvent in the 7-position. Nerolidyl acetate behaves similarly. Limonene gives various palladium(II)-π-allyl derivatives accompanied by addition of methanol from the solvent or of hydrogen chloride. α-and β-Pinene react to give the same trihapto-chloropalladium complex without skeletal arrangement.
