A novel coordination polymer based on a new multidentate ligand: synthesis, structure and properties

Abstract
Coordination polymers (CPs), as a new class of hybrid functional materials, have attracted tremendous interest owing to their potential applications. The effective strategy for creating new CPs is to design and use new organic ligands. Therefore, we have synthesized a new multidentate ligand 1,4-bis-((3-carboxyl-2-oxidopyridinium)methyl)benzene (H2L). Furthermore, a new CP [CuL(H2O)] (1) has been obtained under mild conditions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that Cu(II) cations and L anions are interconnected to form a chain structure, and intermolecular π–π interactions extend the chain structure to a 3D supramolecular structure. In addition, the electrochemical performance of compound 1 has been investigated as an anode material in lithium ion batteries. Discharge/charge curves and cycling performance are measured at current densities of 100 mA g?1 and 500 mA g?1, respectively. In particular, it displays excellent cycling stability after 1000 cycles at 500 mA g?1.
