Calcein-AM (acetoxymethyl ester) is a cell-permeant fluorescent dye widely used for assessing cell viability and cytotoxicity. Once inside live cells, esterases cleave the AM moiety, converting Calcein-AM into the fluorescent Calcein, which is retained by cells with intact membranes. This property allows for selective labeling of viable cells, making it a valuable tool in live-cell imaging, flow cytometry, and high-throughput screening. Its low cytotoxicity and high sensitivity enable long-term tracking of cellular health without disrupting normal physiological functions. Calcein-AM is compatible with a broad range of cell types and can be paired with other probes for multiplexed assays, enhancing its utility in research and drug development.
