Synthesis of the triterpenes fernadiene and fern-8-ene

Abstract
The pentacyclic triterpenes fernadiene and fern-8-ene have been synthesized from α-onocerin via the key stage hopa-9(11),21-diene (XIa)→ ferna-7,9(11)-diene.
