The use of phenylsodium in the preparation of alkylpyridines

Abstract
2- and 4-Alkylpyridines, when heated under reflux with phenylsodium in benzene solution, give highly coloured sodio-derivatives of the bases, which on treatment with alkyl halides yield higher alkylpyridines without isomerisation.
