A total synthesis of magnoline

Abstract

A total synthesis of magnoline (I) has been achieved by the Ullmann reaction between (+)-L-7-benzyloxy-1-(4-benzyloxy-3-bromobenzyl)-6-methoxy-2-methyl- and (–)-D-7-benzyloxy-1-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-6-methoxy-2-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline. Spectroscopic comparisons between magnoline and its antipode or diastereoisomer are also described.
