Tertiary butyl phosphorus compounds
Journal of the Chemical Society C: Organic Pub Date: DOI: 10.1039/J39700000332
Abstract
Routes to compounds with one or more t-butyl groups directly attached to phosphorus have been explored, and a number of new compounds of this type have been prepared. Reduction of t-butylphosphonothioic dichloride with triphenylphosphine provides a route to t-butylphosphonous dichloride which, although having more stages than that previously described, may be advantageous for large scale operation. The Arbusov reaction and several other general organophosphorus reactions are inhibited when t-butyl groups are attached to phosphorus, but reactions of t-butyl chloride with alkylphosphonous dichlorides (RPCl2; R = Me, Et, Pri, or But) provide good routes to the alkyl-t-butylphosphinic chlorides and hence to the corresponding acids. An i.r. band between 805 and 835 cm.–1 is characteristic of t-butylphosphorus compounds.
