Preparation of 4a-alkoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,9b-hexahydro- and -1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-benzofuro[3,2-c]pyridines

Abstract
The preparation of several O-o- and O-p-nitrophenyloximes of 1-alkyl-4-piperidones, and their cyclisation to give 4a-alkoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,9b-hexahydrobenzofuro[3,2,-c]pyridines are described. The cyclisations of some simple 4-piperidone O-phenyloximes are also described, together with an unambiguous synthesis of one of the cyclisation products.
