Abstract

A biphenyl-pillared layered hybrid material having microporosity with a specific surface area of 616 m2 g?1 has been synthesized by the anisotropic condensation of 4,4′-bis(triethoxysilyl)biphenyl (BESB) into the layered silicic acid of ilerite.
