Gelling and fluorescent mesogens of quinoxaline analogs

Abstract

Carboxylic derivatives of dibenzophenazine and diphenylquinoxaline were synthesized and studied. These compounds in addition to mesomorphic properties have gelling abilities and are fluorescent. The phenazine acid and its ester exhibit columnar hexagonal (Colhd) and rectangular disordered (Colrd) phases. In the Colhd phase of the acid phenazine derivative, a hexagonal superstructure is formed. The phenazine and quinoxaline acids are also good gelators and both acids are fluorescent compounds.
