Abstract

A novel zeolite-like host framework was created by spontaneous aggregation of the title molecule in the solid state. X-Ray diffraction analysis showed that the geminal catechol-substituted molecules are linked together via a network of hydrogen bonds. The host framework is stabilized by small solvent molecules, trapped in the crystal cavities without any stronger than van der Waals' interaction between the guest and the surrounding host molecules.
