Fluorine magic: one new organofluorine linker leads to three new metal–organic frameworks?

Abstract

We present 2-fluoro-1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxylic acid (Fbtc) as new linker for metal–organic frameworks. Interestingly, even slight variations of the synthesis conditions such as temperature or the molar ratio of metal to linker lead to three new MOFs, which we call UHM-31, UHM-32 and UHM-33. UHM-31 is isostructural to the well-known HKUST-1. The characterisation of the MOFs by single-crystal X-ray analysis and studies on their thermally induced phase change behaviour are given. Furthermore, we compare UHM-31 in terms of N2, H2, CH4 and CO2 adsorption properties with HKUST-1 and UHM-30 (the amino substituted HKUST-1).
