Abstract

A novel iodocuprate, [Co(phen)2(μ-Cl)]2[Cu9I11H2O]n (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), composed of a two-dimensional (2D) corrugated anionic layer [Cu9I11H2O]n2? and a three-dimensional (3D) cationic supramolecular network, has been solvothermally obtained. The anionic layer [Cu9I11H2O]n2? in the bc plane can be considered as being built up by two types of secondary building units (SBUs) Cu4I9 and Cu10I14(H2O)2. The dimeric [Co(phen)2(μ-Cl)]22+ interacts with each other via offset face-to-face (OFF) interactions giving rise to a 3D cationic supramolecular network with cristobalite topology, which appears to have a complementary relationship with inorganic anionic layers.
