Prosulfocarb is a thiocarbamate herbicide widely used for pre-emergence control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in cereal crops, such as wheat and barley. Its mode of action involves inhibiting lipid synthesis by targeting very-long-chain fatty acid (VLCFA) elongases, disrupting cell membrane formation in susceptible weeds. Prosulfocarb exhibits strong soil activity, providing residual control for extended periods, and is effective against key weed species, including Alopecurus myosuroides (black-grass) and Avena fatua (wild oats). It is often formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) for ease of application.
