α-Azacitidine is a cytidine analog and hypomethylating agent used primarily in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Its mechanism of action involves incorporation into DNA and RNA, leading to inhibition of DNA methyltransferase, which results in hypomethylation and reactivation of silenced tumor suppressor genes.
